Default 2018 Express S4 Gas

Long story short…sold this cart to a buddy almost a year ago. I buy it back and new battery was dead. Buy a new battery and electronics all start working again and I get ready for a ride…nothing is cranking. Strange I think to myself. I check oil and it’s good. I check spark plug and it’s dry. I’m on my way to buy a new plug right now.

Why is it dry? Anything else you can think of that might be wrong?

Just trying to troubleshoot anything I can think of.

Thanks!

Dan

Spark plug did nothing.

New battery, new plug…nada.

Solenoid? Starter? Fuel pump?

Noticed the fuel filter ball has fuel and the pump also had…but the line that goes to the carb didn’t drip when I disconnected it, was rather dry. Could the pump be bad?

Would that prevent if from starting at all?

Finally found the solenoid hidden under some plastic cover.

Put a screwdriver to both bolts and sure enough…got a couple sparks and engine turned over. Appears to be bad.

I think you found the solenoid. That is different than the relay. The relay shorts the ignition coil to shut the engine. Solenoid will have two large posts and two small ones. Put a meter on the two small terminals and hit the go pedal. You should see 12 volts.

Yes, that is what I was looking for. I'm not sure where the relay is, but I know when there is a starting issue, solenoid tends to pop up quite often.

Do you think it's a relay vs the solenoid? The fact that the engine turned over when I put the screwdriver to the leads has me feeling it's a bad solenoid.

I will say one thing. I love EZGO carts, this is my 3rd (or 4th, depending how you look at it)...but under the seat it's a mess. It looks like they just put things together and made it fit on the fly...not thought process. Steering cable just randomly running over everything, solenoid under a plastic cover that is hard to access and change.
