Default 1998 club car ds hill issues

I have a 1998 gas club car ds. It runs great on the level but when it comes to hills it slows down drastically which I know they will slow down. But it acts as if the motor is running hard but the belt doesn't spin fast enough or the belt is slipping. Mostly when there is weight on it like a couple of adults. I was wondering where to start to check things on my cart. Do I possibly need just a new belt or is it a tuning issue.

You need a severe duty drive belt. I got mine at cart parts plus

Also it’s a 1998. That’s 23 years old, and if they haven’t been replaced inspect the clutches for wear. Check the sheaves on the inside where the belt goes if they’re straight, or wavy. If they’re wavy then it’s time to replace them.

So I changed the belt and checked the sheeves. The belt was definitely wore out but that did not fix the problem it's like the cart never gets up to full speed. Before it tops out like there should be just a little more power. Are there adjustments to the clutches I can make to grab the belt more. What are some other things I can check also?

Inspect the clutch sheaves with something flat. Hold it to the center and lay it against the surface. A new clutch the surface where the belt rides should be ruler flat. As they wear in they get “wavy”. A little wavy generally doesn’t hurt performance TOO much but they go downhill quickly from there. I’ve had some I could nearly fit my finger between the straight edge and the clutch it was so bad.

If you’re not sure, pics would help

I just checked the clutches and they are straight as can be. I will try to post a video and pictures in a little while.

Any way you can check WOT RPM? You might just have an issue where the rpms are not high as they should be.
Start with the basics first.

I use one of these often and for years, it works on anything that rotates that produces vibration harmonics, gas or electric,

I ordered one thankyou. What should the rpms be set to? Also how do you adjust if they are low?

Rpm should be 3900. Easiest way to increase is zip tie. Google club car zip tie pictures.

This is what I came up with when I checked the rpm if I did it right I'm guess it stands for 1200 which I would say is low. I am going to do a compression test just for good measure also.
