2001 Club Car DS can a Tow/Run switch be added
Hello,
I have a 2001 Club Car DS without a tow/run switch. I was wondering if it is possible to add one. It would be nice to have that feature when working on it as apposed to having to remove the battery cables. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

Re: 2001 Club Car DS can a Tow/Run switch be added
On a sepex cart with the tow/run switch, IMO flipping it to “tow” is still no substitute for disconnecting the battery cables. That’s not what the switch is for, it kills power to the controller “control” side of the speed controller, which disables the regenerative braking.
You already have the only “version” of a tow/run switch on your series cart… the key switch. Your only option for an additional switch would be interrupting that same key switch wire under the seat with a toggle switch. |

Always remove a battery cable (one is enough) before working on your cart EVEN if you have a run/tow switch!!!! There is still voltage going places and you can easily destroy a controller. The only purpose of a run/tow switch on a sepex cart is to allow it to be towed without the controller trying to stop the cart by back driving the motor.

Tow run switch only disables the controller. It wont keep anything from letting out the angry pixies if you short the wrong two parts together.
Even disconnecting the pack negative only limits the possibility of damage to other electrical parts. You can still bridge two batteries together and have them explode. If you're worried about convenience, change your perspective a little and prevent yourself from going blind from battery acid in your face. Insulated tools are always a good idea when working around batteries. |

Thank you guys very much. I think I will just stick with removing battery cable to be safe.
Thanks!!! |

You can also buy a battery disconnect switch on Amazon. But it can save you from having to manually unhook cable.
