Re: Lithium Conversion (leaf battery)
I ordered HD springs for the front and try that out, but may have to order a 4" lift kit for the front.
When I installed the HD springs in the back it gave me a couple of inches w/o the need for a lift kit. The wheels fit fine on the back. I am undecided as to blocks on the front axle or ordering whole new front axle. I am open to experience/ explanation. |

Re: Lithium Conversion (leaf battery)
One problem with the Lithium conversion is that your cart now is 250 pounds lighter. Mine is like a pickup truck with no load in it. Springs are set up for more weight than I have especially when I am in it alone. Stiffer springs are not going to give you a good ride.

Re: Lithium Conversion (leaf battery)
How much tongue weight will the trailer put on the cart? Older carts like yours get twitchy with weight on the tail and nose high because of steering design.

17' Boston whaler on a single axle trailer with O/B.
This is the reason for NOT going fast. I have stood on the ball so far with now issues (250lbs). Last edited by rottie; 01-21-2016 at 11:03 AM.. Reason: add clarification |

Re: Lithium Conversion (leaf battery)
More picture/progress update.
I added the HD springs up front which gave ~ 2" of lift and made it so the 205/65-10 DOT tires cleared lock to lock. The tires did not clear until I added the HD springs. When removing the front drivers side spring, there was a (shim?) to help level out the cart. I had to reinstall it to keep it level. I also finished my harbor freight trailer so I could haul around stuff(fruit trees, rock/dirt) in the aluminum box and not mess up my cars and have enough room to haul branches/leaves/rocks/dirt by the golf cart. I can also mount the car top carrier on top of the aluminum dump box for when I need extra room and need to be kept dry for car hauling. Aluminum dump box was for a club car the I got off craigslist. Now I have to wait till tuesday for the rest of the controller (Alltrax 72500), motor (AMD7124), contactors and reversing relay to show up. Then I spend the next few days mounting it all including the lithium batteries. |

Looking good Rottie.
I like your trailer as well. It gets me thinking about making a trailer to haul a few more people. |

Re: Lithium Conversion (leaf battery)
Another update after the motor and electronics arrived this morning.
Out with the old and in with the new. I lucked out and everything removed w/o too much trouble. I was really afraid of severely rusted bolts, corrosion, ect. Out with the old.... |

Re: Lithium Conversion (leaf battery)
Now for the new stuff...
This particular motor is a little longer than the stock one but fit just fine with room to spare from the drivers side shock. The rear-end splines were in good condition, so I put a little grease on the motor and it slide right in. I decided to face the field and armature studs fwd for the shortest run. In with the new.... |

Re: Lithium Conversion (leaf battery)
Well I was measuring for the batteries on how I can mount them and I discovered I can double the amount of lithium batteries in the cart.... from 16 modules to 32 modules with ease.
Now lets see, 67V at 240ah or 134V at 120ah..... things that make you go hummmm. Maybe some kind of series/ parallel switch????? I have a choice of really long distance or go really fast???? "Tim the tool man arr, arrr, arrrrrr." Unfortunately that would totally blow the budget and the boss said no. |
