Re: what type of control system is this in my "new" find?
Well it is still a persistent 2 clicker before it will move. I thought about replacing the solenoid but it would seem after a year it would quit entirely. Any ideas why it would be consistent 2 clics to go?
Also, in reference to the rough body. I went to stand on the left rear corner the other day to change a light bulb in a corner light on the house. It broke down and dumped me off! So i have got to repair the left rear section. What methods would you suggest for removal and replacement? |

Re: what type of control system is this in my "new" find?
I have seen situations in the past where the precharge resistor (little extra doodad on the larger solenoid terminals) was not keeping the controller capacitors "filled up" enough, and the controller didn't like that. I thought "hey, one new precharge resistor coming right up". Didn't solve it... Put old resistor on there with new one (2 total installed) , presto, problem solved. Problem was identifiable by lower that expected voltage at controller B+ & B- terminals when cart is at rest (should be only a volt or two lower than battery pack voltage. If you have no precharge resistor on there, try getting one, if you have one, try adding a second one. My guess is that one of the capacitors in the controller was electrically speaking "leaky", and requiring a little more juice to keep it full when cart is at rest. That cart was a apartment complex maintainance cart, and they had no intention of spending a dollar more than absolutely necessary, and not too willing to get it "fixed right" (new controller in a junker cart).

Thanks, I will check for that resistor tomorrow.

Re: what type of control system is this in my "new" find?
Resistor fixed it. I did a little patching up on it and a friend that is recovering from cancer wanted it so he offered 250 and a Maytag twin washing machine engine that runs for it.
So I got a couple years use out of it and made a bit of scratch.Plus got a toy to play with as antique engines and garden tractors are my primary hobby. |
