does this sound like a f&r switch?
Okay so I just picked up a 2002 Series TXT Lifted 23" tires back seat etc. It appears to be the long GE controller not sure of the amps but its the one that only has 1,2,3 post on one side. I haven't had much experience on these carts so here's what's going on. The man I got it from said it did the same thing once before and he "wiggled the cables on the F&R and the cart went back to normal". What its doing is basically nothing. The solenoid clicks and test good , the controller seems to be fine. When the accelerator is pressed the cart does not move. But when I pulled the F&R apart everything looked as I think it should , no studs burnt or sunk. The micros seem to be doing what they need to. I guess I just want some suggestions on any other way to test the F&R for a 100% diagnose I fork on the money on a new one. Thanks in advance.

Here is a continuity test. Switches that fail the continuity test are 100% bad. Switches that pass the test are 95% good. Also check your micro switches (ms) for continuity while working them.

first off.....reassemble the F&R per these instructions of Scotty's
F&R-Exploded-View-for-print.jpg them seeing as how the solenoid "clicks" start checking each high current cable/connection. and continuity through the switch in both forward and reverse. |

Followed your instructions and I get continuity on the f&r switch and both micros. Could it may be the controller and if so does any one know how to check a GE one ?

Re: does this sound like a f&r switch?
This is a generic test for any brand series controller.
Connect your DVM test leads to the M- and B- terminals on the controller. Push pedal just far enough to make solenoid click and you should read FULL battery pack voltage. If you don't, you have an open someplace in the high current circuit. (Cables, connections, contacts, brushes, etc) If you do get full pack voltage, slowly press the pedal to the floor and the voltage between B- and M- should decrease to Zero, or very near it. If it doesn't decrease, check the throttle input to the controller. If the throttle circuit checks out, the controller is probably bad. |

Thank you guys , I am going to do some more trouble shooting this evening but I just noticed where it looks like the solenoid is burnt on both the large studs. Maybe someone jumped it the wrong way and took the controller out

Re: does this sound like a f&r switch?
It is also possible the stock solenoid just failed. If it has the larger controller it probably has the larger white rodgers solenoid but they can fail. With the go pedal pushed do you get pack voltage on both of the main lugs of the solenoid ? And hopefully you have the rear wheels off the ground while checking all of this.. At cart that suddenly takes off can be a bad thing.. Where are you in SC ?

Re: does this sound like a f&r switch?
Oconee is a little farther than a 20 minute drive
Try what scottyb suggested and see what happens. If that fixes it you obviously found the problem. If not check for voltage at all 4 lugs on the FnR switch. |
