1976 ez go swap questions
So I think I have a 1976 ezgo that was given to me.reason why I think this is because the drive clutch is parallel to the rear axle. Its a 2 cycle with a robin engine but I'm have problems with it. Was thinking about just doing a swap because I can't find much about this old of a cart. My question is has anybody done one this old? 2 what will I need?3 does anybody make a kit for this?

Re: 1976 ez go swap questions
unfortunately, the swap isn't so easy with those older 2-strokes because the engine actually ran backwards to give the cart reverse gear (the transaxle has no provision for shifting) so You generally end up with a cart that has no reverse if You swap motors ...

Re: 1976 ez go swap questions
the cradles from VC are designed for the late-model Marathon with the shifting transaxle (1993 and up) so even though a cradle swap is possible, your engine is going to be oriented 90 degrees from your driven clutch which unfortunately, will not work. If You are hell-bent on swapping another motor, it's best to look around for a late-model Marathon transaxle to start with (or an early TXT will also fit with some minor modifications) - it is next to impossible to swap engines with that older transaxle and even if You figure it all out, You're still stuck with no reverse gear.

This is the diagram for the 40/44 series drive clutch (which should be the one on your cart) |

Re: 1976 ez go swap questions
I have a 1983 and just bought a drive clutch for mine, $230.00 including the shipping. Came complete. You can find it here if you're interested:
