1996 EZGO cart and two PowerWise chargers
Helping my grandparents with their cart and two chargers.
They have a 1996 EZGO cart and two PowerWise 57 28115 G01 36-volt chargers. All was fine until about a month ago - Grandpa connected the cart to the charger and the charger did not come on. He tried the other charger, and same thing! In the meantime Grandpa has been using a 12 volt auto charger to charge two batteries at a time. This works, but is a big hassle. After doing one of Grandpa’s charges, we checked the voltage on the Radsok connectors of the cart. It measured 36 volts. Now… I realize there is a automatic cutoff in the chargers, and perhaps the voltage is high enough to prevent the chargers from coming on. And, if the voltage of the six batteries is too low, the chargers will not come on… How high does the voltage of the cart need to be for the charger to come on? What should we do next to troubleshoot the situation? Marius Perron Texas Hill Country |

Does the cart run? If so, voltage is enough to turn the charger on.
Open the charger-and on the relay is two wires- disconnect those from the relay and connect together. Plug charger into wall and cart- see if it charges |

Re: 1996 EZGO cart and two PowerWise chargers
Thank you. The cart runs fine. But Grandpa has to charge the batteries two-at-a-time with a 12-volt charger!
If the cart is fully charged (36 volts), then the charger will not come on, right? Is that why I would bypass the relay? |

Re: 1996 EZGO cart and two PowerWise chargers
Those chargers should turn on even when attached to a fully charged battery pack. They will soon taper down to near zero amps & shut off pretty quickly. But they should still turn on. BTW- 36.0 volts is only about 50% charged, fully charged batteries will read a little above 38 volts.

Thanks. Grandpa is going to check the charger, next. Bypass the relay.
