2000 club car.
2000 48 volt Club car has 400a controller. My question is can I run a stock 48 volt motor with the 400 amp controller?

Re: 2000 club car.
I am about to install a 400 amp controller on my 99 DS , running the stock motor and 2 ga cables, HD solenoid, I was told as long as I don't go over 400 amp the stock motor will be okay.

Re: 2000 club car.
Heck it will run on a 700 amp controller , mine last a few years before it melted the S1 stud off of it .

Re: 2000 club car.
For series cart the need for such a limit is a mythical wives tale. Here's why:
Consider there may not be much more than 500 amps a battery pack can physically put out at any one time. So a 500 amp or 1000 amp controller may be passing the same amount of current especially after the first few seconds of max draw. This much amperage is a direct connection between the motor and the battery pack... just like the resistor coil carts do for the motor at wide open throttle. That's right - resistor coil carts get a direct connection while most solid state carts have restricted access. I suggest the 500a Alltrax (570 peak) for all series carts with bigger tires and hills. |

Re: 2000 club car.
I found a red hawk 10hp motor. Would that work for the cart?

Re: 2000 club car.
Yes. The RedHawk (Admiral) A-1 motor will work, and it will work much better and longer than the factory GE motor. The factory GE motor has tiny brushes and cannot take abuse like an aftermarket motor such as the Admiral.

Re: 2000 club car.
Do I have to upgrade all my wiring or will the factory be ok for now?

Re: 2000 club car.
I think 4ga cables are recommended with controllers in that amp range. You can try it as is, and check your cables after running a few minutes and see if they feel like they are heating up .
