Did a tune up now cart won't run.

I have a 1991 marathon gx444 I bought used. When I bought it it ran just ok. After using it for a few months it sat in my garage over the winter. In spring I came out and teplaced the battery, fuel filter, air filter, and spark plug. Now it won't run. I had a friend that works at a bike shop come over to help me and he said I need to replace the fuel pump because it had gone bad. He got me a new pump but it is for a four stroke motor not a two stroke but he said it would work. The carburetor is getting gas buto it is blowing back into the air tube and it does not seem to be getting to the motor. When you push the accelerator the motor starts to turn but will not Rev up.

Are you saying that gas is blowing backwards towards the air cleaner?

If so, I would think that the reed valves are stuck open.

So I need to pull the carb off and do a thorough cleaning on it then.

One it obviously wasn't the fuel pump- its rare they go bad. Its a clogged carb. Remove the carb, and all the jets and get compressed air and blow though all the passages.

I Google Reed valve and figured out what you were talking about. I pulled it out and can see a very small amount of light around the sides.is this OK or do I need to replace the reeds. If so I have not been able to find them online yet can you recommend a site to find them on and probably the Reed body too

If none are bent or broken the reeds should be fine have you done a compression check?

No I don't have a compression guage
