If the carts are stock and don't have any additional accessories that are turned on and off with the key, this won't hurt a thing. I'm speaking only if the cars are working like they're supposed to. DS based cars with worn brake mechanisms have a tendency to pull the accelerator pedal down when the brakes are locked. Often, this will pull it down enough to energize the solenoid. If the car is sitting with the brake locked and the solenoid energized then you'll have an issue. Otherwise, it's fine.

in 4 yrs i have never turn the key off unless i'm working on the cart or kids are around
kids love to hop on and mash the go pedal (learned that the hard way)
it doesn't seem to affect the cart at all nor does it discharge the batteries that i know of

that said: i'm also the guy that runs 12 volt accessories off of 2 batteries and leaves his cart outside all the time

You're just one of those people that don't like to follow rules

If any of my carts are not moving, the key is off. Strictly a safety thing for me....

I turn the key off. Drunks are worse than kids.

I got run over by one once. Never again. It was a 36 volt V-Glide car with a lift kit. I crawled under it to work on the pedal linkage and forgot to turn off the key. I took the linkage loose and shoved it out of the way, and opened the throttle wide open. It slammed itself against my work bench and the knobby tires burned rubber on my back for a good 10 seconds before I was able to get out. Road rash isn't fun. Since then, I don't work on them unless the key is off and the F&R is in neutral. That was probably around 2003 and I still remember it well.

I have that rule too. But, when you are at the beach, drinking, having fun, girls in bikinis, etc., I have a tendency to break that rule. Just make sure the key is off/out.
