1989 2pg will not start when hot
hey guys, I have searched and found no solution. 1988 EzGo 2pg runs great until you stop then will not restart until cooled off. New carb, spark plug, HEI conversion (plenty of spark when hot), Turns over fine just will not start. 125 PSI of compression when hot. I have no way of checking spark under compression - Thinking it might be coil. Any ideas? Cart has been sitting for 2 years because of charging issues, new voltage regulator fixed that. Sorry for long post, just trying to get all info in.

Re: 1989 2pg will not start when hot
Update on cart. Went through trouble shooting guide item by item. Still have same issue, will not start when engine is warm. Used different fuel tank (lawnmower), fresh gas , electric fuel pump (for carburetors), new coil, plug wire, and plug. Cart runs great for however long I drive it (5 to 30 minutes) but as soon as I stop it will not restart until motor is cool. Cranks fine just no start. What am I missing?

Seems you covered all bases, maybe over heating? might pull the fan/flywheel cover off and see if it's plugged up with dirt?

Re: 1989 2pg will not start when hot
When it happens again, try shooting the crankshaft seals with starter fluid. See if it tries to start then.
I don't see it being a fuel, or carburetor problem. It sounds electrical, but I suppose worn seals could lose their effectiveness until they cool down again. |

Re: 1989 2pg will not start when hot
I would make sure the air filter is clean and the carb can get an unobstructed flow of air. I'd also check the muffler to make sure it isn't getting plugged up. Maybe BBQ it and make sure it's clean.

Re: 1989 2pg will not start when hot
Thanks for the replies! I have not pulled fan cover. Will do tomorrow! Starter fluid sprayed at crank seals does not change engine RPM when running . Air filter is unconnected to motor. Muffler has been BBQed (last weekend). It will not start with exhaust pipe unbolted from motor when warm. One thing I have noticed with a clear fuel filter is the fuel pump (electric or factory)seems to lose flow when warm. Out put is less as motor warms up. If you disconnect the fuel line at carburetor the fuel flow is good when hot. As if carb will not take fuel the warmer it gets. It might relate to fins being dirty/bad carb?????
