Cart moving before engine start?
Cart runs great, but difficult to start on slight inclines or under heavy load such as two large males. Seems like the S/G is trying to move it before the engine catches.
Same symptom on level ground with just me, but the engine usually starts after a 2-4 seconds of applying the gas pedal. Thoughts? |

Re: Cart moving before engine start?
Is it normal for the cart to attempt forward movement before the engine catches?

Re: Cart moving before engine start?
Sounds to me like your clutch may be stuck or perhaps your throttle cable may be out of adjustment...when in neutral does the belt move up and down when more throttle is given or just stay in place...drive belt not starter belt...

Re: Cart moving before engine start?
Oh I thought the issue was that it wasn't starting fast enough lol.
Yeah if it's moving while trying to start, I'd say the belt is too tight, or the primary clutch is not open all the way. If you are using a new belt it could be that, sometimes the aftermarket belts are a little tight and grippy. |

Re: Cart moving before engine start?
On my 2011 ydra I replaced the Team clutches with the new jw8 clutches and the j55 belt. With this setup the j55 belt fits tighter than the original jw1 and the stater will allow the cart to move before the pedal is advanced to start the engine. For my purposes this works when trying to park or backup the cart in tight spaces. Yes I have adjusted the pedal to specs and this setup works for me.

UPDATE:..so that I don't leave you hanging. New crank seals totally fixed this. I was surprised, but it starts now like a scared rabbit. Uphill with two people in deep grass...vroooom.

Re: Cart moving before engine start?
I'm having the same problem. If you take the spark plug wire off so the engine can't start, will your s/g still move your cart? Mine does.
New belt or old belt. Clutch opening up wider than the belt. |

Re: Cart moving before engine start?
Yes. Drove me nuts. Replaced carb, coil, plug with no joy. Finally changed the crank seals and was AMAZED. Before swapping seals, it would run ok once it got going, but totally frustrating until I swapped the seals. I also considered the clutch, and other ideas, but decided to try the seals first. Look around the crank seal area on the clutch side. If its gunked up with oily dirt, that's a sign. Also, when you swap seals, check the crankshaft for slop. Mine would "wiggle"and I could see slop in the bearing. I ordered new crank bearings and just put them in. I'm waiting on new rings to finish putting it back together again. And yes, I ordered yet another set of new seals because I boogered them up to get to the crank bearings. My cart always made a distinct growling noise while driving, which I'm thinking was that bearing. I'll let you know. Should be reassembled this coming weekend I hope.
