Default 2002 Yamaha g16

Picked up a g16 from a friend for mother inlaw, cart starts with key off and has for years but she's going to keep it in attached garage so im not to comfortable with that! I replaced switch at gas peddle but it didn't fix the problem!! Any suggestions on what to check next?? I checked switch with a meter and it seems to be working correctly! Thanks

Ignition switch/key switch

The pedal switch just works the starter. The ignition switch powers the cart on and off. If that switch is bad it could stay on all the time.

Is there 12v present at key switch? I’ve seen people run hidden kill switches, if that’s was the case here you would have no voltage to key switch...yet somehow Cart would run?

Yes have 12 volt at switch! Could it be solenoid?

How does the cart shut off? With the pedal released? And only starts with pedal being pressed with key switch in either direction? Sorry I’m picturing this in my head as Om typing...a stuck solenoid usually keeps the cart running regardless of pedal switch unless battery is disconnected

[yes it shuts off when peddle is released! Cuts right off when you let off gas. But starts up with key in on or off??

So that tells me one of two things...either key switch is faulty(which you have said you already did continuity test confirming it’s not) ...or in my mind the only other thing possible is that there may be an accessory or other hot wire tied into the harness that should not be there...do you have any aftermarket accessories(radio, lights, etc?)

No problem...an easy test would simply be to remove the wiring to your batteries for any accessories and see if it still starts without key switch...If not that gives you a direction to check out
