Default Another 88 MArathon with poor performacne

Hello all
I have an 88 Marathon that started performing badly (hard start an lower than normal speed) suddenly
History
Due to running it out of oil I Replaced the Jug, Piston, Rings and because of previous hard starting the carb. Its still on the first tank of richened oil/fuel mix.
It was running better than ever, starting easier just smoky (mix related)
Suddenly it didn't like starting. It would turn and turn and then eventually start but it was like a locomotive, slowly building RPM until it would move. There is a Hot fuel smell. and even more smoke...
I cleaned and adjusted the carb but no improvement.
It was running perfect then it wasn't like a switch
What say you

Clean the original carburetor and put it back on. Then take the fuel pump apart, and look for a lower ripped diaphragm. After that, think about crankshaft seals.

I know you said that you adjusted the carburetor, but the only real adjustment is the float level.

Turns out it was a Fuel Pump... Cheap fix, that doesn't happen often!
