Default 2007 ezgo workhorse won't go uphill

Hello all. I'll give you some specs on my cart before I describe my problem.

2007 ezgo gas with Robin engine. Has a aftermarket fuel pump that is on a switch so it's always on with switch( not to solenoid)(bought it like this). Cleaned the carb, new gas and new plugs. Also put a new belt on ot.

Problem: it seems to not want to go uphill. Seems like lack of power but doesn't backfire or stall or anything like that. Even on flat ground it will bog down with lack of power. Although it will sometimes pick up and run nice and fast on flat ground like it should run! Also I changed oil because it smelled like gas. It again smells like gas again after a couple km run. Any help is so much appreciated:)

Have you checked the compression on this motor? the reason I ask is the fuel pump is usually run on a vacuum line and is not an electric fuel pump...people usually put electric fuel pumps on gas carts with low compression that lack the vacuum to run stock pump..

I will do a compression test today and someone also mentioned that the intake valves might be to tight so I'll try that as well . Thanks

They also replace the vacuum/pulse style pump (before you got it) when they can't figure out an issue. Problem is they might have put a smaller size pump on and you are running out of fuel or possibly bigger pressure/volume pump on and it is flooding your carb which can cause issues from stumbling motor to gas in crankcase to continuously washing the cylinder and ruining the rings hence low compression.
Try to get the correct one back on it and start there.
At least you or anyone won't have to remember a toggle switch.....

Just to add, gas in the oil and poor running cart might be that the carburetor needs cleaning and float adjusted.
Take a good look at the needle and seat area and float adjustment.

And if the cart is lifted, the dipstick is no longer accurate. 1.5 quarts is all you want.

Depending on the pump strength ( psi ) of the electric pump it may be forcing fuel by a closed needle valve and flooding the carb and crankcase with gasoline. VERY BAD for the motor to run with gas in crank. Should not be over a 2 psi pump.

Ok so I did a compression test and one cylinder had 140-150 psi. And one had zero. Needle didn't move. Anyone know what my next steps are? Complete rebuild kit? Thanks

Remove both spark plugs and verify the pistons are going up and down.
If the one is not then a full teardown is in order.
If they are then remove the rocker cover and verify all four rockers and valves are moving up and down.
If they are, check valve clearance, .004 cold

It's common for this engine to break #2 connecting rod. Verify the piston is moving up and down. I use a wood dowel rod, set it in the spark plug hole and rotate the engine by hand, watch for the dowel to move up and down.
