Re: 2003 PDS quit running
Tightening the nuts on battery studs is a balancing act, too loose can cause problems and too tight can cause problems.
The studs are actually Stainless Steel Hex-Head bolts with the head embedded in the lead battery post. Lead is a very soft metal and if excessive torque is applied to the nut, the Hex-Head of the stud will move within the lead, causing air-gaps, which allows corrosion to form, which in turn allows a meltdown to occur. Attached is copied out of a Trojan Battery user manual. The terminal type typically found on golf cart batteries is a ELPT or EHPT (Embedded Low -or- High Profile Terminal) Translated to ft/lb the range is only 7.9 to 8.8, so it is relatively easy to exceed the torque specs. |

Re: 2003 PDS quit running
Thanks guys. It blew up with a bang like a rifle shot. Whole top of battery is cracked with three holes around the top where the positive post sits. I will call the two golf cart places today and see if they have an older battery. I think I would rather put in a new T 105 instead of a different brand used or new. Or is that just a waste of money? One I may not find a used battery and I bought these t105 to last seven years. Thanks Rick

Re: 2003 PDS quit running
Regardless of what battery you replace the exploded battery with, it has to be replaced when the other five are replaced.
Your T-105 batteries are 3.5 years old, so they are no longer 225AH batteries. Load testing would be needed to determine exactly what their storage capacity is now, but you might consider a T-605 (210AH), which may be closer to their actual capacity than a T-105 (225AH). Of course, there might not be all that much difference in price. Also, look around for a "Black Box" Trojan. |

Re: 2003 PDS quit running
Today is my lucky day. I can pass go and collect 200.00 but that's only in Monopoly. Ok the place I bought the T105's had some used ones and that saved me some dough. Thanks for all the help. Rick
