2012 precedent OBC or charger issue
Hi everyone, new to the forum and new to golf carts.
I purchased a 2012 Club Car Precedent recently and am having issues with keeping a charge. Meaning, I drive it for 20-30 minutes and the battery indicator light comes on. I have read through many of the posts and this is what I have so far: *the batteries are 2 years old *Each battery has 8.2-8.3v *Across the pack it reads 50.9v *The charger takes 5-10 seconds to kick on after plugged in *I hear the relay "click", the gauge goes to 15amp, then drops to 8 after a minute and slowly tapers to just under 5 amps *It will run for an hour or so depending on how much I have driven it (5 minutes or 30) *most of the time after I unplug the charger (after it has been on and turned off by itself), the battery indicator light comes on I do not know if the charger is for this specific car, it came from a golf course fleet. It has a street kit installed (head lights, tail lights, brake lights, turn signal, hazard lts and horn) I have taken the charger cover off and connected my meter to test voltage at the relay. 0v when first plugged in and then I get 49.1v after it clicks on and starts charging. I am assuming, according to the charging troubleshooting thread I read that this should mean the OBC is working. I have attached pictures of the charger. One has a red and black arrow where I was getting the voltage readings from the relay. Again, assumption that these are the right wires for that. Thanks for any input -Brian |

Re: 2012 precedent OBC or charger issue
What’s the water level in the batteries?
Everything you posted seems to make sense, except for the really low run time before the light comes on. Have you checked the voltage when you drive it an hour and the light comes on? It does appear the charger is working as it should. |

Flip the switch to "Tow" and then removed the negative battery cable for ~20-30 minutes. Hook the negative cable back up, flip back to "Run", and plug the charger back in and and let us know how it charges....
What brand batteries are these? |

Batteries are topped off with distilled water. PD+ (club car).
I’ll drive it around now and check the voltage and try the disconnect. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

This is not to say your batteries are bad but, if it was part of a golf cart fleet you can almost bet your batteries are bad.

Re: 2012 precedent OBC or charger issue
so I ran the cart for an hour and tested - 48.4v. This should be about 50% charge correct?
Here are battery pictures. They say Club Car distributed on them. I spoke to the guy I bought it from knowing he had others he purchased and he is willing to swap me chargers tomorrow. The one thing I did notice on the charger was the amp meter needle shook like crazy when it was on. Maybe chatter in the relay? Should I still disconnect the negative for a 1/2 hour to let things reset even though I am trying a new charger tomorrow? |

Re: 2012 precedent OBC or charger issue
Battery lights can come on for several reasons. It doesn't always indicate that the battery pack is low on charge. More likely that the OBC needs to be reset to clear any stored info it has and it can start learning the energy usage again.
Does the amp guage wobble the whole time it's charging or just for a few seconds? |

Fluctuates all the time.
So I should definitely remove the negative cable for 20-30 minutes to reset the OBC before using s different charger? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Yes - the OBC controls the charger. Always rule it out first....
