That sounds alot like welding cable. I don't know how many strands compact conductor has but the strands in welding cable are like coarse hairs, lots of them. It is the best I know of for golf cart cables, but the compact conductor you're talking about should work, it might not be quite as flexible though. One area that I do know of that flexibility is important is where the cable connect to the forward reverse switch. It is very important that these can move freely or you could possibly crack the switch when switching to forward or reverse.

If possible post a picture for us of the compact conductor cable. I have not seen this before.
