Power Drive Charger won't come on
Last week I installed 6 new Trojan batteries in our (new to us) '01 Club Car. On Fri., I charged the batteries and everything worked fine this weekend. Now, after using the cart a few times, I can't get the charger to even come on. All connections are clean and tight, I have 50.4 volts across the bank and have followed the instructions to reset the OBC...twice.
I checked the fuse on the gray wire and it was broken, not burned out but the glass was cracked. However, the large glass fuse on the (-) charging terminal is fine. I replaced the 3/8 amp fuse with a 2 amp just to see if the charger would even come on until I get a 3/8 amp fuse tomorrow. Still no sign of life from the charger. Is there anything I am missing? Does it sound like my charger is bad? |

Re: Power Drive Charger won't come on
Sounds like a relay.. Make sure power is off first/unplugged!!!! There is a small timer relay that is in the charger attached to the back wall, if this goes bad it will not come on.... you can bypass this relay... one wire will be power in to the relay and another wire will go to the transformer, you can bypass the relay by connecting these wires to each other. When you have these wires connected, plug the charger into the wall. If it was the relay the charger will come on regardless if the cart is plugged in or not.
You can find the relay cheap on the net... Potter & Bromfield part number T9AP1D52-48-01 |

Re: Power Drive Charger won't come on
Before you open the charger check to see you have 50v at the cart's charger recepticle. A bad connection could cause the same problem ... If you have good voltage at the recepticle then check the charger. There is a test to jump (bypass) the obc also.... just because you reset it does not mean it is good to go.
I hope this helps? |

Re: Power Drive Charger won't come on
It was the relay...I just got back from the shop and they put a new one in there for me. Perhaps I will order a couple online to keep on the shelf.
Thanks for the help! |
