would like to start a battery comparison
I have the sams club energizers in my golf cart, would like to do a real time test on which batteries are working best. Anyone interested. Mine are six months old figured if I could find people with six month old bats of other manufacturers we could do a real time test, ie... voltage after charge, after usage, etc..., length of charge time, maintenance issues encountered, that kind of stuff. Anyone interested.

Re: would like to start a battery comparison
It's a fun idea but ...... There are way too many uncontrolled factors from house to house and use to use to make this scientifically sound .... In a real test all batteries would be in identical carts, terrain, number of cycles, Cable size & age, and Test temperature. And about a dozen other factors that effect how much useful life you get from a battery pack....
BUT, Let's see what happens |

I agree with you scotty just thought this might be a good way to get a rough estimate of how different batteries perform in real world situations. Not intended to be a this battery is better than that because type situation just a comparison.

Re: would like to start a battery comparison
Redrider in the interest of a fair evalution of batts. Lets answer a few questions first.
1. How often do you charge. A. mine after every use 2. What are the general running conditions you regularly experience. A. Golf course and road running, average range approximately 7 miles three to four times a week. 3. What are your basic maintenance periods. A. I check water levels, clean and check connections once a month. Feel free to add any questions you think are approbriate and I will answer them. Again this is a comparison only based on usage. We could set a specific end date to check individual and pack voltage for comparison. I will post individual and pack voltage tomorrow after a full charge. Just got home from ramrodding the cart so need to charge. I think this will be fun. |

Re: would like to start a battery comparison
I am interested as well. It was recommed to me (by a local golf cart shop, selling lifted golf carts) "Sams has the best price on batteries" I hadn't read a single forum and at that time, figured a battery was a battery. After buying and telling anyone, I am treated like a retard. I have moved past the feeling that I made a pizz pour descision and am dead set on taking good care of the batteries and seeing how they do. I think anything can either perform better or worse with proper maintanance (or lack there of). Anyway, I am commited to them at this point, so let's see what they've got. I am going to take care of them, but won't baby them. The cart is lifted for my hunting lease and will be used for that. It is a tool and a toy!

Re: would like to start a battery comparison
A good battery will die prematurely if not cared for properly. A cheap battery will do better if maintained. With that in mind, maintanence is the crucial factor. I had 4 12v Trojan batteries in my 2006 Precedent. I thought I maintained them well but they were shot after four years (I wanted to get five years out of them). I now have new US batteries that CC gave me under warranty free of charge. The OBC needed replacement as well and may have contributed to the early demise of the Trojans. I say "early" only because I have heard many people say they get more than four years out of them. I believe the US battery specs out just as well so I hope I will get the same performance and longevity out of them as I did the Trojan - hopefully even better.
I looked at Sams batteries when I thought I might have to replace them myself if the warranty did not come through. Sams did not carry 12v and I did not check to see if they could be special ordered. The dealer told me the US batteries would cost over $200 a piece installed. I'm glad I was able to get them under warranty!! |

Re: would like to start a battery comparison
Bad idea Too many variables and chances for biased decisions.
Let me help you with batteries. You can go by PRICE to get the quality! IF you have some type of scale to take, weigh them for lead content... |

Re: would like to start a battery comparison
Well let me start by saying that the sams club batts weren't my first choice but I needed something when the old trojans finally passed away, and couldn't afford to get new trojans at the time so went with sams energizers figuring that they wouldn't probably last the 6 years the old trojans did. Like I mentioned in the previous post my objective here is not to say that trojans are better than energizers or US batt etc.... I just figured with all the threads on here about batteries of different makes that it might be kind of nice to have a real world comparison. I agree that all factors won't be identical so no this won't be scientifically accurate, but hopefully it will give the readers something to base judgement on for there particular use. In the interest of fairness I posted questions about uses and maintenance so that readers can get a real world situational idea. I am still interested in doing this with say a 3 month end date to compare start and finish information, ie... voltage, performance, maintenance issues etc.......

Re: would like to start a battery comparison
Won't work! No one will have the same usage, conditions, carts, charge cycles, etc.
Nice idea - but the info will not be accurate. Just take a scale with you and you'll see what I mean... |
