Default Questions on how to properly do 400 Amps.

I have a 1998, series wound CC DS, 48 V, 3.75 hp "Special Service" motor. I have already upgraded to 4 ga welding cables and I have fresh Exide GC8V-110 (150 Ah) batteries. I plan to use the following for my 400 Amp conversion. A White Rogers 586 solenoid and an Alltrax 4844 controller, with stock 18.5" tires.

This should be a torque machine and will not have problems climbing hills, correct? Do I really need the programmable AXE controller or is it just a matter of preference? I like the option to modify the parameters as in my professional life that is all I do as a Process Control Engineer. Anything else? Do I need to replace or upgrade the F/R switch or can it handle the load? Will I need Wheelie Bars? LOL. Any information will help greatly.

Thanks,

Charles T.

Replace the F&R Switch with a heavy duty model and you should be good to go.

Thanks TahoeDawg, that makes sense. Can one just install heavier contacts in the F/R switch or is it recommended to replace the whole assembly?

I think you can just replace the buss bars with thicker ones made of some good heat resistant copper alloy material.

Are there any good vendors for the heavier copper bus bars? Or do we fabricate our own from copper stock? Are there any springs inside the F/R switch that need to be replaced with heavier ones?

Thanks,

Charles T.

If you can make your own, go for it or you can buy a new HD F&R for your cart. It will have the heavier bus bars and all new stud contacts and micro switches.

Any good vendors that sell a HD F/R switch for a CC DS 48V series cart?

Try one of the site sponsors. They carry HD F/R switches.

I made my own out of some aluminum stock I had because I didn't feel like going to the store to buy copper and I've been beating the heck out of mine with a 650 altrax and a custom D&D motors and I have had zero issues
