Default 6V to 12 V conversion

Still have not figure mine out, checked the volts both on the charger and off the charger,
Here are my readings:
Chrgr On Chrgr off
Bat 1 - 9.9V 9.2V
Bat 2 9.8V 9.2V
Bat 3 13.3V 8.7V
Bat 4 9.9V 9.2V
Bat 5 9.8V 9.2V
Bat 6 10.8V 9.4V (this is a new battery I had installed in Aug)

Checked the SG, it pegs the guage over 1300 on all cells, floats it aboved the good line.

While I was buying the Hygrometer, I asked the Adv Auto guy if they sold 6 V cart batteries, he said no, but he has a lot of folks converting to 12V, says its easy and a lot cheaper.

Seems to easy and a good thing, must be some catch? Not sure what else to check on mine, maybe not the batteries?

well the guy at the auto store DOES NOT know what he is talking about,,, and for your batteries, it looks like you did not let the batteries rest off the charger before you took the readings,, after a full charge the battery pack needs to rest for about 12 hours before you take the readings, and the SG readings, thats why every thing is off the chart

Are these 6v batteries? These numbers make no sense at all. How old is the battery in your multimeter???

12 Volt GOLF CART batteries are more expensive than 6 volt GOLF CART batteries.

I just looked at the Sam's Club web site for the price of a new set of batteries for my (now) 48 Volt cart and here's the figures:

12 Volt Golf Cart Battery = $184.24 Each X 4 = $736.96 for the pack.

8 Volt Golf Cart Battery = $98.72 Each X 6 = $592.32 for the pack.

==============================================

Since you said you have 6 Volt batteries, here's the figures for that one too:

12 Volt Golf Cart Battery = $184.24 Each X 3 = $552.72 for the pack.

6 Volt Golf Cart Battery = $81.83 Each X 6 = $490.98 for the pack.

I'm sure the sales droid behind the counter was going to try and sell you AUTOMOTIVE batteries. Most of the people behind those counters can't tie their shoes without punching the make and model of them in the computer any more! The days of someone that knows what they are doing behind the parts counter is gone for the most part unfortunately.

From the battery readings in the first post, i would say they are 8 volt

i found this other post that Gydyup was talking about his batteries

Sorry, yes 8V batts.
They rested for 24 hrs before I took the readings for SG.
Last night I check the volts off the charger again, all batteries were reading 8.8/8.9 bouncing back and forth between the two, EXCEPT battery 3, which read 6V. Its a brand new multimeter and battery in that.

Battery 3 is the same battery that showed 13v+ on the charger but 8.3 off the charge, dropped to 6 overnight. Something fishy going on there.

Looks like #3 is a goner.

Try to let the batteries sit undisturbed for 12 hours after charging and before testing. Otherwise all we are doing is checking the charger. For the most part all batteries come up under charge but the bad ones can't hold the charge.
