I converted my 36 to 48 volts for right at 1k, so I don't know that buying another cart is always the answer

Can you be more specific on what you converted? Was it a complete overhaul?

I have to buy new batteries anyway and WOW ... I am so glad I found this forum because I was ready to throw a 6inch lift and $800 worth of tires onto a 1992 36 volt Club Car DS

I look forward to your reply!

Use the search button, there is a lot of info out there on converting these carts. It's a pretty common upgrade & one I might end up doing if I don't sell my cart. In the end the conversion while costing some money gets you more performance than a stock cart.

I bought the new controller, upgraded solenoid, 48 volt DPI charger, and potentiometer from Scotty B, he is a sponsor here, for 945 if I remember. He gives you a very detailed instructions of the change. I was lucky enough to have a bunch of 2 wire to make up new battery wires and motor leads. I did at the time stripped everything out of the cart and rewired it, but its not needed. I am still using my 36 volt motor. Of course when you add up the other options I bought just to have on the cart IE.... rims and tires it went well over 1k

I actually spoke with Scotty B today. He broke it down for me and I am going to buy from him. He assured me that with the new components, it will be fine going up the hills.

I will keep you posted ... THANKS !!

Yeah it will seem like a new cart. Mine can maintain 18 mph after the upgrade

I am a really interesting point...

$400 - golf cart without batteries
$600 - batteries
$800 - tires and rims
$200 - paint job
$800 - 48Volt upgrade
$150 - 48Volt charger

= $2950. I am not sure if I should proceed with the 48V upgrade and charger or just sell the golf cart and buy something new ...

I really wish I knew that a 36v cart would not work worth a **** when lifted.

I'm at the same point & my cart is for sale but I also realize that even if I spent 3k on a different cart that was lifted etc, I'd still end up tearing it apart & spending more money on top of that. I guess my point is the only way I'll really be happy is if I build what I want, the money will be spent either way.

Probably need to add the cost of the lift in as well. Take out cost of cart, upgrade and charger the other cost are probably still valid. The $1350, (cart, upgrade and charger) is not that far from what you might pay for a 48v cart so cost differential not that great.

I am in same boat but have more invested in old 36v cart. I intend to do it for the fun of the project. Will never make my money back but should be fun.

Your choice to proceed or stop and will be a gut call by you alone.

Exactly if you sell your cart buy one you think is done at 3k, then something happens you may wind up with 6k in the cart. All the while you could have 3k in the cart you own, have everything in it you want, and know every part of the cart once you get through...IE you know its done right and not relying on someone else
