Default Not sure whats wrong

Hi guys; I have a 1980 EZ Go that's started giving my problems and I'm not sure where to start. Now its old but has been running fine. With the key in the OFF position (or even removed) the cart will still run. If you take it out of neutral into forward or reverse, it will simply take off like its on cruise control. If your driving it and come to a stop, you can feel to motor pulling against the brake to the point the resister coil turns cherrie red. I'm having to disconnect the batteries as a safety measure to keep young kids from accidentally taking off in it and hurting themselves.
Any suggestions on where to look. Thanks for any help.

Sounds like the solenoid contacts are welded closed.
