RXV voltage reducer
Good evening! I am new at working with golf carts and am installing a voltage reducer (48 v to 12v) in my 2015 RXV to power lights and radio. I have read that you should not attach to the key switch, that you should have on/off directly from battery pack or solenoid. 2 questions:
1st: Do people prefer going directly off the battery pack + with a toggle switch and if so, where do you find a toggle switch that can handle 48V? 2nd: My most pressing question is where do I mount it?! All the instructions say to mount to the metal frame because it will get hot, but I can't find a good spot on the frame to mount. If I do mount it to the frame do you screw it in? Cable tie it on? Any help with this would be most appreciated! Thank you! |

That depends upon whether or not you use LED lights and how powerful of a stereo system that you want to install. A standard auto stereo and LED lights can run just fine on 10 Amps. A high powered stereo can draw over 10 Amps by itself.

This means that the fused KSI circuit is designed to be capable of supplying at least 5 Amps of continuous current. I now apologize to the other design engineers out there for giving away one of our secrets. Another little known fact is that DC-DC converters convert watts to watts, plus a small amount of overhead (average is 96% efficiency for 36V to 12V and 98% efficiency for 48 to 12V). 10 Amps @ 12 Volts = 120 watts, the same as 2.5 Amps @ 48 Volts = 120 watts. With overhead, current draw with overhead is still well under 3 Amps. Obviously, the best DC-DC converter for use on the KSI line either has a power consumption that fits within the design criteria (120 watts), or runs from the battery pack directly and has a seperate keyswitch input control wire (the green wire mentioned prior) connected to the KSI wire. On a Rxv the solenoid is always on when the key is on. There is a timeout, but it's like 20 minutes of no activity.

I am also looking for the best place to mount this. It says to mount to metal because it gets hot but where Kernal above shows mounting it is plastic I believe, has that been an issue?
