Re: Battery cable lug?
I like to check cables at least monthly, when I do my battery watering. BUT, if it ever gets loose enough to cause temperature rise, just search this forum and you'll find plenty of folks who melted theirs, as it's just a SS bolt encased in lead - LOW melting point.

Re: Battery cable lug?
I^2R is the heat dissipated in a loose connection.

Re: Battery cable lug?
3/8" studs ARE larger than others, besides solenoid. Solenoid has 2, and the reversing contactor would have four, assuming it's the same as a manual FNR.

Re: Battery cable lug?
Just curious. Did you crimp, solder, or both? Mine are just soldered.

Re: Battery cable lug?
If I had made up a whole set of cables that didn't have the "perfect" sized holes, I "might" use them, and pay more attention to heat than I currently do. It did take a while to make up my set, as I have eight T-105s under the seat, so many are custom lengths, and my pack positive and negative are not in the normal place, since I mounted my controller and solenoid over the motor. Also, I made my cables with "enough" slack, but not enough to cut and redo.

Re: Battery cable lug?
My cables are just soldered. I had a 2 gauge cable that was already made up with 5/16" holes in both lugs. I drilled out the one side to go over the solenoid stud and the other side really needs to be 1/4". My batteries aren't golf cart batteries and there isn't a stud, but a bolt that threads into the battery. The bolt is only a 1/4". I just said 5/16" stud with a 3/8' hole so I wouldn't have to go through the whole explanation of why I would need a battery lug with a 1/4" hole. I guess I'll just cut it off and put the correct lug on. You can see the batteries I'm using and their location (battery on the left will be facing the other way) in the pic and you can also see in the other pic how long my cable is. I can easily cut and re-do.
