Alltrax AXE4855 repacement
Hi All,
Its been a while but I'm back to the forum looking for help. I have been having the BS trouble of one day the cart works... park it for a few days...then nothing. Been reading the threads and found a controller test.. Jack up the back end, connect -m to -B which bi-passes the controller.. and bam wheels are spinning.. bad controller. What's a good replacement for the AXE4855 I should be looking at? Thanks for help in advance... if any! |

Re: Alltrax AXE4855 repacement
I replaced my AXE4855 with an SR48500. Slightly higher peak amps, but pretty much plug-n-play, except my cables were custom soldered to length, and one was too short. Probably not a problem if yours is located where the original controller was. Alltrax has dimensional drawings on their site. My controller got moved to the rear of the cart, to make room for eight batteries.
Dunno your situation, but a problematic area is the Molex connector on the four wire cable from the throttle box to the wiring harness, usually located between controller and FNR. See pic. Cut it off and solder or butt splice, then use a quality water resistant heat shrink. Does your AXE give an error code? |

Re: Alltrax AXE4855 repacement
Four flashes says you have an ITS throttle type. Solid means it's ready to go. What happens when you press the go pedal to the floor? Does it give a blink code then? Can you connect to it with a laptop and see what the throttle says? You'll need a serial to USB cable, note Alltrax recommends specific brands. You can download Controller Pro here:
https://alltraxinc.com/controller-pro-software/ Try the throttle troubleshooting here: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...e-testing.html Also download the three manuals, and try the troubleshooting in chapter E of the Technician's service and repair manual electric carts. Owners Manual for some newer electric carts http://products.jacobsen.com/img/man...645-g01-gb.pdf Technician's service and repair manual electric carts http://products.jacobsen.com/img/manuals/28646.pdf Service Parts Manuals electric carts http://products.jacobsen.com/img/manuals/28789-g01.pdf AXE manuals: https://alltraxinc.com/wp-content/up...E-Mini-Man.pdf https://alltraxinc.com/wp-content/up...ors-Manual.pdf Can't find wiring diagram on their site, so I attached it. |

Re: Alltrax AXE4855 repacement
LOL.. Thanks for all the info..but wouldn't the test I did narrow it down to the controller?
I got the wheels to spin by bi-passing the controller. |

Re: Alltrax AXE4855 repacement
An error code with the pedal to the floor would tell you if the controller is happy after the POST. The Molex connector can prevent the controller from going. It's powered up, as you get the POST blinks. Hooking it up to a laptop will also tell you something.
But replace it with a bad Molex and you'll be right back here again. Not saying it's the Molex, but your controller says "all is good" with the pedal partially pushed. What's the harm in pushing it to the floor and seeing what the blinks say. |

Re: Alltrax AXE4855 repacement
I've never had to do troubleshooting on mine, except the reed switch. Does your "bypass" utilize the FNR and the solenoid?
My AXE gave me four blinks then solid green, but when pushing the pedal further, it gave me an under temp error - minus 25°C. |

Re: Alltrax AXE4855 repacement
I tried running the alltrax program but it would not see the controller, I tried both 38 and 39- controller program. When you asked if I checked the lights by pushing the pedal to the floor.. you were talking about having the controller hooked up to the laptop? If not I did not see any changes in the lights 4 then solid.. I opened up the (its) box on the floor and it looks brand new inside..
Not really sure what to test volt meter wise... But thanks for working with me.. |

Re: Alltrax AXE4855 repacement
Did you read the instructions? The controller needs to be powered up, either with batteries or with the pedal pressed just enough for solenoid to click and the LEDs should flash 4 times then go solid.
When I asked about the controller LEDs with pedal to the floor, I meant without laptop, to see if you got an error code, and if I recall, at WOT you should get an amber LED. With laptop connected, You should be able to see throttle position. If not, go to throttle troubleshooting in the Stickeys. Movie night, sorry to be so short. |
