Default Battery Charge Indicator

I understand there is an analog state-of-charge meter for the RXV that is plug and play. From reading through old threads there used to be a digital version of this meter; however, I can’t find one for sale.

1) Does anyone have recommendations on a digital voltmeter or multi-function meter?

2) How have you wired the meter so the meter turns on and off with the cart? Or do you leave it on all the time? I’ve learned enough from this site to never splice into the main wiring harness.

3) What gauge wire do you recommend for the install?

Thanks

Just avoid the 'LED Bar' gauges. Trash and waste of money. Get one that runs when car is ON and shows actual battery pack voltage in numerical fashion.

Literally any. Preferably waterproof. I got this off Amazon for my first one. I suppose if you wanted it to come on only when the cart is on you could tie the power wire to the ignition switch and use ground as usual. (Mine has dedicated power and ground on my cart so its on 24/7 which I like because anytime at a glance i can see the soc, uses negligible power). There are definitely other better ones with more information, but if you just wanna know where you're at, this will do.

What gauge wire did you use to run to the battery?

To run to the battery I used whatever gauge wire thats on the stock harness. The wires on the DVM are very thin but if I had to run fresh wires to the pack I would have just used the 18 gauge that I have laying around. You don't need much.

Thumbs up Re: Battery Charge Indicator

I've been using those 2 wire meters for years. They work great. Just keep the water away from them if they have the open backs. You can use whatever size wire you want because they have very little amp draw.

I used to leave them on myself until they started burning out LED segments. I now just wire them to only run with the car on.

How did you do that without splicing into the ignition harness?

You don't need to splice anything. Just use a double side spade connector on the ignitiion if you want to. Attached pic.
