Default broken wire

Hi. I have a 2013 txt 48.
I have been gone from home for work for about a year.
anyway i went to move it and it was dead upon further looking it over, I find corroded battery terminals get then cleaned and I notice the black wire going to the hot side of the battery is now missing the loop.
Here is what I need to find out what is the little square piece on the wire? Can I bypass it?

thanks for any help.

I hope I did this right. It's the wire in the center of the picture.

The "black wire" you mentioned in your first post appears to be gray.

It is a battery temperature sensor and is not connected to the battery electrically, or at least not via the ring connector, so it can be placed on any of the battery terminals, or simply duct taped to one of them, or left hanging in mid-air. It comes as an integral part of the charger port assembly, or there is a replacement kit, or it can be bypassed with a 10kΩ fixed resistor.

Haveing tough time understanding picture and corrosion.
Is the black wire part of a multi wire strand insulated in black rubber?
Do you have on board battery charger?
Either way sure hope your batteries are good after being uncharged for that long of time.

If I recall correctly, there is a ready made thermistor with a ring terminal that you can order from mouser cheap to replace that. I researched that a few years ago and posted it somewhere here on BGW. I never actually bought one as I prefer JB's suggestion of the 10K ohm resistor.
