Can 2 cyc seals be changed W/O splitting case?
Simple question I haven't found the answer to in searches...how do I pull the seals without splitting case? I'd like to change them without pulling jug off.
Thanks |

I've did it before by screwing a selftapping screw into the metal side of the old seal and prying it out with a prybar or screwbar , it may take 2 screws on opposite sides and be careful to stay away from the shaft with them .

Thank you. I was hoping something like that would work. I really don't want to split the case if I don't have to. I'll post results in a day or so.

Re: Can 2 cyc seals be changed W/O splitting case?
Problem solved! I took off the flywheel to check the seals and I found the seal had come out. I scrunched it in and the engine popped right off on my test stand!! I am a happy guy! It has ~140 psi of compression and lots of vacuum! Almost sucked me into the carb!
Thanks for your help. This site is great! |

Re: Can 2 cyc seals be changed W/O splitting case?
I am rebuilding my top end and in the process am changing the crank seals. I got the old ones out by using the screw trick but couldn't pry one side out so I used a pair of end cutting pliers and used that to pry out the old seals.
T H E N I ran into a problem. When I put the new seals in I put them in too far. Now I think they are rubbing against the bearings making the crankshaft a little difficult to turn easily. I think I'm going the have to get new seals and start over. Moral of the story: Don't put the new seals in too far. Clem |

Do you have a procedure for timing this engine? It is not in the engine rebuild section of the service manual. I only have that one rebuild section of the manual. |
