Default MCI vs Pre MCI engine

I just got an 04 TXT G in decent shape. The motor is nice and quiet, no smoking, and little body wear for the age. Clutch had a dent in it but otherwise works (needs some adjustment) I paid 1800. Not sure if it is a good price over all but for my area in eastern PA it seems to be on the low side for what they go for.

My question is what is the differnce between the Pre MCI engine and the MCI engine?

I see it uses a canister filter and the exhaust manifold is a single outlet but is there anything else?

Is the canister filter better?

Pros / Cons????

mci has the exhaust that is part of the head. your should be MCI.

The main difference is emissions from what i was told.

They have totally different ignition system. I like the canister system b/c it seems to filter better. Down side is it harder to modify this engine, like putting 295 head on a 350 block.

One of the main differences was the quicker starting time b/w pedal pressing and actual movement. No lull in the pickup like the pre-mci...

So the MCI engine is made to be more eco friendly and start faster? Sounds like a good thing.

What was the carb recall about?

Anyone know what the carb recall was? Also, on top of the carb used on the MCI engine is an aluminum plate with rivets. Im sure this is where the adjustments are but outside this is a plastic (black) screw with a pointer on it. What is it?

Don't know bout any aluminum riveted plate, but the screw with the black pointer is your low speed idle adjustment.
