Default Powerwise Charger Fuse

Looked like I blew the fuse on my Powerwise Charger, so I've read that it's time to replace the fuse and diodes.

I looks to me that the fuses are standard 50amp fuses, so why the $10+ price tag?

Does anyone know the specs on the fuse (eg: type etc), as I imagine these should run less then $5 if purchased as a regular fuse not a "golf cart fuse".

I replaced the burned out fuse with a standard automotive 50 amp fuse. Took a bit of fiddling to connect it, drilled holes in the two prongs coming out of the fuse to match the wiring connection. Has worked fine for over a year.

Depends on which Powerwise charger and which fuse.
My Powerwise charger has a fuse assembly consisting of two fuse wires in a window mounted on the front panel.

If your charger uses standard fuses, you should be able to find them locally at a much better price.
Take the blown fuse with you to an auto or electrical supply and they should be able to match it or steer you in the right direction.

Don't go up in the amperage and you should be fine.

Check the diodes before replacing the fuse. Bad diode(s) is typically what causes the fuse to blow.

Thanks guys.

Any suggestions on the diodes? Seems like an electronics store might have them.

If they have got a part number on them, (IE: 1N1188 ) you might find them locally. IIRC they are stud mount 400V 40A or something like that.

Also, the EZGO part# is 18488G1 and you can get them from several of the site sponsors listed above.

Did some research and while our site sponsors are great, and I support them making a living, I was a little hesitant to pay a 400% markup on these kind of items.

That savings can go towards better stuff, like big tires or a lift kit :)
