Option 1.
48 volt, 500 amp controller, Plum quick motor just to start. Look at the sponsors for a lift, whichever suits you, height and type. There are allot to choose from. Same with the wheels. New marine stereo and amp. Get the seats covered by xt innovations, there a sponsor.
Option 2.
On that budget you can get something brand new. Look at these.

This is the new version, just released from E-Z-GO. You would be ahead of everyone else, no one else has it, it is new for 2012.

This is the predecessor to the L4. Wait a month and these will be on clearance by dealers trying to make room for the new L4 and S4.

That new L4 is a sweet looking machine.. Wonder if the cowl will fit the standard TXT frame... Looks like it might...

Rib the guy painting my cart is getting me the paint. But like I said the inferno red is the most expensive due to the mass amount of pigment. I believe it has like 16 different pigments that make the one color.

The L4 cowl will fit the TXT, The new L4 is identical in all aspects to the ST, besides the new cowl and the optional limited slip diff. I would still get the new model for the looks, though, and if you want to go off road the limited slip differential is a must. Even if you buy a new L4 you could get one for around $6500-7000, which still leaves you plenty for upgrades, and it comes in red.

I want to do a ground up restoration, not buy off of a showroom floor.

Thanks for the info. I will check with my dealer and find out about the price of the cowl and the parts it needs, lights, guard and what not. Already have the sparky cart that is already upgraded but mainly looking to put on one of my workhorses. About to do a repaint on the daughter's, she is tired of the iridescent pink so now probably chevy synergy green.

I'd start with a 72 volt conversion, 700 amp controller, 2ga cables, and a new motor. talk to scotty b about that. Then a long travel or a drop axle lift kit, whichever suits you. Then some 12" rims and 23" tires. Custom seats by XT innovations. A marine stereo in the dash slot for the golf ball holder, a marine amp, and at least four speakers and one sub. Possibly the new style Terrain/Express cowl or old style ST/Workhorse cowl with LED or HID headlights. 4 wheel hydraulic disc brakes. These are the basics you should start with, The details are up to you so I won't start on those.
