Default Can I have it 180 degrees out?

Hi everyone, I have a 96 Txt 295cc that had a bent valve. I replaced the valves and springs but now I can't get it to start. I have good compression, I and I followed your directions on bottom out the rockers and back them off a 1/4 turn so all that seems ok. I was wondering if I might have it out 180. I put my thumb by the exhaust and it tries to suck it in and if I cover the carb it blows out there. Any help would be great..

Did you line the timing dots up when you put the cam back in?

I would adjust the valves with a .004 feeler gauge. Just to be sure, did you put something in the piston hole to be sure you adjusted the valves at TDC? I use a screw driver in the plug hole to watch the piston come up and both valves close for adjustment.

Hi scotty, I had the head off and when I put it back on I ran my finger across the top of the pistons and made sure they where even. then I checked the bottom gear (the Crank i think) it was lined up with the dot. I then put the head together and adjusted the valves and set the cam dot with the notch. I didn't check to see if both intake valves where open or closed.

If I am out 180 do I need to turn the cam 2 full turns or just one?

If you are out 180 degrees you need to rotate the cam half a turn (180*)
Do you have a service/repair manual you can reference for directions regarding the timing and valve adjustments? with pictures? I like pictures.
Can you take a picture of the timing belt area?

Hi Thanks guys It was out I followed your sug. scotty and did the screw driver trick then turn the cam till both intake where the same. It took some turning over be she fired and ran great. It is still hard to start after it sits for a few hours. Not to sure what to do about that.

That's a trait of those motors, just pull the choke if it has sat an hour, it will pop-off right away and you can open the choke and drive off. It's just the way they are. Once you get in the habit of doing that you will find it's a better cart

Don't forget to adjust .004 on those valves every 6 months!
Good Luck

Thanks Scottyb I was trying that and it seemed to turn over alot slower then when I opened the choke it turned over faster. I might just have a weak battery thing going on it's on the charger now

I also was answering a ? on the thread "Gas Problem" and told the guy to seek you out that you might help him.

Sounds like it, if you need a new one get a 70 series battery with more cranking amps.
