rheostat maintenance/adjustment
Looking for instructions on how to properly lubricate and adjust the jhook/power bar for my rheostat. I have the manual but it just says "it doesn't take much grease to do the job, but it should be done weekly". I overdid it and got a lot of arcing.
I'm using dielectric grease, where exactly do I put it? btw, its a taylor dunn not a CC, but I figured old series rheostats probably work about the same? this one is a 5 speed. Hope thats ok, this forum just gets a lot more traffic. |

Do you have any pictures of the rheostat?

Re: rheostat maintenance/adjustment
Lube the slide bar, the j-hook and the stationary contacts. Dielectric is correct. Bear in mind it will need to be kept clean(metal builds between the bars and burns) and lubed the moment it starts sticking.

Re: rheostat maintenance/adjustment
This pic is before I cleaned it off. Then I overlubed the first time and everything was arcing. I sprayed it off with electronic degreaser and lubed more judiciously. It still arcs in 4 th and 5th even though it seems to be making good contact.
Runs good thru 3rd though. I'm following the directions in the manual but can't seem to adjust it correctly. I don't think the problem started till I cleaned the contacts. The bars get pitted pretty fast! I can take a better, current pic if it would help. |
