Refinish Aluminum trim
I'm restoring a '95 DS and wondering about the best way to restore the finish on the Aluminum trim around the front body and the side 'bumpers' that run along the foot well. The aluminum pieces (as well as the rest of the cart) have a lot gouges and scratches. Is there a good way to fix these using relatively standard tools? I have a Dremel and a belt sander, but nothing more exotic. I'd like to clean them up, at least, to be a bit more presentable. Thanks.

Re: Refinish Aluminum trim
Scotch brite works good to clean it. If you want you can use mothers polish to shine it.

Re: Refinish Aluminum trim
Files and sanding take some effort, but end with good results.D/A-Sanders with 120-240 grit paper or Cookie-grinders work good with scotch-disks,but move quickly and evenly to prevent removing too much and causing low-spots.For the final finish, you can wet-sand the pieces, then either polish them with something like Mothers Aluminum Polish,or use Scotch-Brute pads for a brushed-finish.Hope this helps.

Re: Refinish Aluminum trim
Start with about a 320 or so wet sandpaper and then move up to 1000-2000 grit then polishing off with Mothers aluminum polish. The higher grit you go will of course make the better mirror finish once the polish is applied.

Re: Refinish Aluminum trim
If dinged up a machine turned finish can be cool, use a drill and a wire brush cup.
