2005 Precedent Wire Smoking
Hi -
I have a 2005 Precedent Electric (4x12v) that I bought about a year ago. I put a deluxe light kit on to make it street legal and everything has been fine. Yesterday while driving the cart, we started to smell something. The hot wire coming from one of the batteries to the light kit had burning insulation on it. Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be causing this? Again, everything worked just fine for about a year. Thanks! |

Re: 2005 Precedent Wire Smoking
The first thing wrong is you either don't have an inline fuse for your lights or it is too large. Next you likely have a wire that has rubbed and shorted out.

Thanks for the response! It has an inline fuse. I will check for a wire that rubbed... Any suggestions on typical areas where this could happen?

Re: 2005 Precedent Wire Smoking
The fuse should blow before the wire melts, or if it shorts out. I would have to have the cart in front of me to see what setup it has. Start by following the wires from the lights to the voltage source. It may be that the voltage reducer failed and allowed too much voltage to the system.

Re: 2005 Precedent Wire Smoking
Found the problem.... The pull switch for the headlights loosened a little and rotated behind the dash. One of the terminals contacted the metal reinforcement support for one of the screws. Fixed that and replaced the fried wire and all is good. Thanks for the help!
