Re: Yamaha G22 ? Driver Clutch dissassembly?
Hey cgtech, thanks for the help. I got the clutch taken apart just about half an hour ago, and ran into a disappointment. I had thought I could machine out the center shaft to fit my new engine, according to some reports I should have been able too, but that must have been on a stock clutch. This comet has a much smaller central core. Looks to be one inch itself. So...Looks like I'm back to buying the tapered adapter and cutting the crank. Something I was really not wanting to do. Before I do that, I'd like to ask how much wear is acceptable on the aluminum sheave? There is a bit of a step halfway down it. Just wondering if I'ts worn to much if I shouldn't just order the clutch for the straight shaft. Decisions decisions.

Sounds like the new clutch with straight shaft is the way to go for you.

Re: Yamaha G22 ? Driver Clutch dissassembly?
Well, I got it taken apart last night. Thanks again for the guidance on how to take it apart. Unfortunately, I am not going to be able to machine the center like I had planned. The core is much thinner than I realized. I didn't understand before I took it apart how it fit together, and where the spring was. But since I have it apart.. I need to inspect it and see if its fit for use. The aluminum sheave is showing some wear. There is a groove worn around the middle of the wheel...it wasn't apparent until I opened it up and got a good look at it. So, if the sheave is worn, is this clutch worth using, considering I have to cut the shaft on my engine, and use an adapter. Or, would I be better in the long run using the purpose built straight shaft clutch? I would rather not cut my engine crank if I can avoid it. But most of those I've seen don't come with the starter drive pulley on the back like the comet I have, and I don't know how easy it is to put one behind the clutch. Anybody got any opinions?
