80's DS seat bottom construction?
I trying to find out what the construction of the seat bottom on an 80's DS is suppose to be. Mine's a mess and I need to rebuild it. Attached is a photo of what's on mine and a drawing from a 93 parts manual.
From the drawing I can figure out how all the metal pieces get attached. But, What does the gasket look like in reality? The drawing makes it look huge. I assume the gasket pieces that are on mine aren't original or was there a difference between my 89 and the 93 in the drawing? Are there reasonably priced gasket alternatives to the OEM pieces? Thanks |

Yeah I would say the gaskets look way bigger than they really are in that drawing. I can snap mine when I get home, but I think some of mine may be missing. Haven't really looked at it too much.

Re: 80's DS seat bottom construction?
I've only got number 11 in the picture on mine. Didn't even know there were others.
It runs along the back side of the seat. No ill effects that I'm aware of. Seat doesn't bounce around or leak or anything. |

Re: 80's DS seat bottom construction?
I believe #11 is currently on the front side of my seat. So I'll move that to the back when I rebuild.
Is the plywood 1/2" or 5/8? Thanks |

You can't tell the wood thickness by checking out the holes in the bottom of your seat? Those holes look big enough for a tape measure, or even something like a drinking straw with length markings on it.

Re: 80's DS seat bottom construction?
I guess these forums makes one (me) lazy. So much easier to type the question then run out and check the cart. I did do some searching here after posting my question and finally just went out and checked for myself. There are a few holes in the bottom that I was able to measure through. I was thinking I'd need to take back some of the covering to check. I didn't want to tear into it until I had all the materials I needed to do the job.
It appears the board is about 1/2" thick and that's consistent with other posts here. While searching here I was able to find that some people replaced their's with 3/4" plywood. I may do that as I've got a couple pieces laying around but not any 1/2". Thanks |

I plan to replicate the board that's there now. Hopefully its the original and therefore accurate.
