Default I get to see the gas cart this saturday- what should I look for

I got ahold of my Brother in law and told him to manually try to engage the reverse arm!
he said he tried and it would not go into reverse?

is there anything else to try, before trailering the cart home and tearing into it?
where it is right now, is at least 60 miles from any form cart shop

thank you\
Chris

You have to remove the cables from the rear end, and then try to shift it by hand, rock the car forward and reverse as you try to shift it by hand

I got to the farm this weekend, and put the cart in neutral, turn the key and it lurched forward, when I put it in reverse, it sat there it did not go.

Then I TOOK THE CABLE OFF AT BOTH ENDS and put it in forward- it went forward, i put it in neutral and It went forward, I put it in reverse and it did not move?

I switched the arm all the way to the right and to the left and I still only had forward and neutral

where do I go now?
