Battery issue and question
Hi all,
I have six 8 bolt batteries on my 03 48v DS. We are camping for the weekend and one of my batteries went dead. Any damage if I take the 12v deep cycle off my camper and replace the bad battery with the 12v? This will bring me to 52 volts. I’m going to replace all the batteries in the spring. I just want to limp by for the weekend. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Battery issue and question
As Swan said, that would cause a severe imbalance in both your pack discharge rate and more importantly in the charging of it. You could not get a complete charge with a 48v charger and a 52v pack....

Re: Battery issue and question
For charging I was going to hook the 8 volt battery up and charge the 12v on its own. Like I said I’m going to replace all these in the spring. I don’t care if it ruins the other 5. I just do not want to do any electrical damage.

Re: Battery issue and question
Hard to say with a 15 year old system, but it may work fine as its only 4 volts. With 1 dead 8v battery the pack will not charge correctly with it in or out the loop. No matter how you swap them around, there is no way to correctly charge the pack of 8v's unless all 6 are connected and charge capable.

Re: Battery issue and question
It “charges” just didn’t hold it. All the other bats sit at 8.3v, this one is 7.4 and drops to 5v under load

Re: Battery issue and question
Find a used or refurbished 8V battery to hold you over until you get a new set.
Should work ok for awhile and you wont have charging issues since it is 8V. That 12V will cause you headaches. |
