Default '92 DS 36v Resistor Cart upgrade order

Hey all. Just picked up a '92 DS 36v Resistor cart. Got it registered for the street. Now just needs more speed. I'm thinking Navitas 440 and sending stock motor to plum quick to Banditize it. Going to have to upgrade little by little so what should I start with. Motor or Controller? Also, I believe I will need a newer wiring harness from newer stock DS or Precedent right? Also MCOR and Solenoid? Any help greatly appreciated. Let me know your Order of upgrades! BTW will eventually upgrade to Lithium after batteries die. They're only a year old now. Oh, and bigger wheels for more speed eventually too. Thanks!

For a resistor cart upgrade the controller first, it wont add speed but you risk damage to other components if you do motor first. Last I checked Navitas didnt have a generic wiring diagram to follow like Alltrax does so if you go that route you would need to get a wiring diagram. Also if you have a GE motor in their PQ will advise not to upgrade it.

Before you buy anything really explore your options and what you want out of it. Since its a resistor cart and you will be replacing everything if you want decent performance out of it. Decide if you want to stick with a series motor, do a newer Sepex motor, or do an AC conversion. You have a series motor now read up on the pros and cons of it. Don't feel like you need to stick with type of system because that's what it has now.

End of the day your probably talking a price difference of a couple hundred bucks either way to really get what you want and if you havent spent any money yet really think about it!

Almost forgot...my order of upgrades for my resistor cart was:

1. Upgraded Wires, F&R switch and Solenoid
2. Did a Vglide bypass (do a search for it if interested)
3. Upgraded to an Alltrax 500A controller
4. Threw in a D&D speed motor
5. Upgraded from 36v to 48v

This was probably over an 18-24month period.

Next will be a reversing contactor then I think this cart will be done...on to the next!

Thanks Jake. Just what I was looking for. Been hearing about Scotty b's C54 conversion kit. I'll have to see how much that is. May be worth saving up for? We'll see. Your info helps a lot though.

I did ScottyB's C54 conversion kit couple months ago. Was a pretty easy install. The performance switch has been great for letting the grandkids play with the cart.

I want to get rid of the FnR switch for the reversing contactor. Haven't had any real issues with it but we had one day where we went for a nice long couple mile run at full throttle and I decided to see how everything looked under the hood. Motor was pretty warm and the switch was hot, didnt melt anything or smell like burning but it was hot. I think it would clean it up a bit cause thats alot of big cables going to/from that switch.

I was asking about your "V Glide Bypass."
