Default What wax to use on CC Surlyn Body Panels

For anyone with the Surlyn CC body (non painted), found the next best thing since sliced bread? This morning I decided to wax my CC Precedent. I have a variety of waxes/polishes to choose from as Im sure most of you have as well. Decided to go with Meguiars Wax/Cleaner spray. I was skeptical at first due to the fact that I would be waxing plastic rather then a painted surface. After I finished waxing, it looked ok except for some dull hazy whitish spots (my CC is black). What I did was re-wax those parts and it made it worse. I then rubbed with my finger to see if that opaque spot came off. Noticed it left kinda like a residue regardless of how much I wiped with a dry terry cloth. What I did next was to wash it with mild soap. That made it even worse! Crazy water spots! At this point, I realized that wax is not a good agent to bring shine to surlyn CC body panels. Long story short, went to Discount Auto and the employee there recommended another product that was similar to this Meguiars wax in that it came in a spray as well. This product, unlike any other polish or wax that I know of, indicated that it actually works great on plastic. I was hoping that after my first application on my CC, it would take the water spots, smears and opaque spots off and shine the body uniformly and evenly. Not only did it take care of all of the above but it also went on and off very easily and effortless. I must of done my cart in no more then 10 minutes. I was so excited that I went and did my pickup as well. My neighbor Rody happened to pass by and of corse offered his car up as well. Guys, Ive never seen windows on both my car and CC shine up so well. It works wonders on chrome, rubber pretty much everything. You've got to try this. Freaken looks like the cart is wet! If you dont have this Surlyn type body panel, try it on painted surfaces. Let me know! Oh, almost forgot! The product is by Turtle Wax and is called Ice. And no, I do not work for Turtle Wax but after these results, I'm thinking about it.

You hit the nail right on the head.... Turtle Wax Ice is the only thing to use on a Precedent.

Glad it worked out for you. I don't use wax much I use detail spray on all my stuff. I use a product called Zaino. Developed for the show car scene, they only sell online but it has worked on every surface and never leaves a residue. Maguires has detail spray as well, its more a sealer than a wax and stays clear you just spritz and buff it with a microfiber towel.

This didn't work for me.

Water spots are not coming up with the turtle wax Ice.

Gonna have to try clay bar next.

Glad this thread came up because I was curious myself. I see the original post was 8 years ago - Is Turtle Wax ICE still the recommended wax 8 years later? Is there a polish that's safe?

Brett, love the new avatar. Turtle Wax ICE is still the best thing I've ever found for polishing a Precedent, aside from a painted body. Let me know when you're ready for that. It can be swapped at your house. I won't have to bring the car in.
