Default Advanced Starter/Generator Brush replacement

My 2013 RXV got to a point where you had to press on the gas pedal 6-8 times to finally get it to start. I pulled the rubber cap on the brush and it was even with the brush holder, I pulled the next cap and that one was WAYYY down inside the brush holder.

I ordered a new brush set for the Advanced Starter/Gen 114-01-4010, it was about $50 for the brushes (a bit pricey). I replaced the brushes with help from a YouTube video. I used my air compressor and blew out all the dust (outside!) I cleaned the commutator with a scotch-brite until it was shiny! Sprayed a bunch of contact cleaner on the commutator to make sure all was clean. Reassembled and reinstalled with a new belt.

The new belt has "teeth" on it but the original belt was smooth. I just brought the old belt to NAPA and they sized it up. I seems to work fine.

Cart now starts 1st try, every time!

Two questions -
1. IS there a cheaper price for this brush set?
2. Is a belt with teeth on it okay for the starter/generator?

thanks!!

The "teeth" you are talking about should only be on the very bottom of the belt. That part doesn't matter. The belt only contacts on the tapered sides to match the pulley.

Vegascarts actually recommends the cogged belt for use on the S/G started clones. A little more bite area on the pulleys. I switched mine over after the original belt died. With their lower bending resistance they are able to bette conform to the small pulley used on the starter generator. They also run much cooler again helping to reduce slippage.

I just took one of my brushes to an aotomotive starter alternator rebuilder shop and he matched them up, I think he charged me $17.00.
