Default 91 DS Solid State Converted. Now What?

Like this title says, I have a 91 CC DS.

Current Set Up:
August 2014 US Batteries 36v
Alltrax SPM48400 Controller
HD Solenoid
SW182 Reversing Contactor
0-5k Pot Box
4ga Cables
Stock 36v motor 1012191 2hp 2800 rpm

My Cart isnt lifted but has 205-30-12 (18") Low profile tires on it. I really don't want to lift it.

Right now top speed is 14mph flat, 17mph slight downgrade (oceanlakes Speedometer)

Options....
Plum Quick Bandit
add 2 more batteries under rear seat
add solenoid for field weakening (cheap upgrade)
upgrade back tires to 20"
gear upgrade (not on my to do list really)

What would be the best bang for my buck? Plum Quick bandit or Add 2 moe batteries. I want to do both but?????? My Buddies precedent is at 30 and lifted and its sketch to ride when it starts to get swirly. Thats why I dont want to lift mine.

The bandit would probably put you safely faster with little else to do, If you go with a 48 volt conversion you have to consider the cost and what will it get you. For a street cart that should be fine, probably won't do 30 but that is too fast anyways.

I working on one like yours but a 1989 with the V glide.36 v. Was doing 12 mph. I added a 4 battery and up to 17 mph. With stock tires and rims.I clean all contacts on f /v switch and had to change soleniod.Add 12" rims with low profile tires like your and got 19-20 mph.
Everything is stock.
So happens my F/R switch just broke so now
Back to more repairs.lol
I know Hartley anything about these carts.lol

48v will spin the motor to 3724 rpm or 33% faster than stock which equal about 30% speed increase or 18-20 mph. After that your looking at a high speed motor that will operate closer to 6000 rpm

I would say it depends on your needs. If you are wanting to go faster, get a PQ bandit. If you want to go farther, get the two extra batts. If you want both, get both.

One question - will your solenoid handle 36 or 48? Most of the heavy duty ones come with a 36 and a 48 v diode.

Also, can't tell from your pic, but what about lights?

Scottyb, Curious to know how you came up with 3724 rpm. Was that an estimated guess or is there a calculation?

Have you ever done field weakening?

The solenoid would still work the same since I would add 2 more batteries. It just takes 36v to operate the coil and close the contacts. Even if you wanted had a 12, 24, 36 or 48v would work on 8-6 volts. The same with the SW182 Reversing contactors (FNR) it would still see 36v even tho the battery pack would be 48.

So the only calculation I can come up with would be......

RPM / Voltage = (X) 2800 / 36 = 77.78

(x) * Voltage = RPM 77.78 * 48 = 3733.44

IDK......

That's pretty close to what I came up with - problem is at the end of the day you still have a 2.5 or 3.5 hp motor. Real improvement comes from voltage increase and a motor upgrade where you have 8 or 10 hp running on 48v

I agree that 48v will give you way more speed than a bandit upgrade on a 36v cart.

As You already mentioned, You would just need to run separate negative wires to both solenoid and reverse contactor from the +12v battery post.

That way the solenoid will still be activated by the same +48v provided by the pedal switch the controller needs, but it would effectively have +36v on its coil.

The only unknown will be the state of your existing batteries.

I would allow the pack to charge a few times and then monitor the voltage on the new batteries near the end of the charging cycle.

if they are cooking with a voltage much higher than the older batteries, You may want to look at building a voltage by-pass for the new batteries.

Near then end of the thread below we talked about using it for 6v batteries.
