Precedent i2 Excel - Precharge Resistor Heating Up
I have a buddy of mine that owns a Precedent i2 Excel (SN: PH1124-200004) and he called me a few months back he had called me and said the cart had a slight surge to it. Ultimately the cart started running as it should after he checked the battery cables and the motor cables. Fast forward to today and he called back saying cart wasn't doing anything and now he noticed a wire across the solenoid smoking. The wire he is referring to is the precharge resistor from what I see on the wiring diagram. I did a search on the forum and see where a precharge resistor heating up is caused by an excessive load downstream of the precharge resistor. i.e. controller failure or motor failure. I also found references to a Curtis scanner/programmer (curtis 1313-4401 and curtis 1313-3301) and would like to ask if that is really needed to troubleshoot this? One guy was having trouble possibly accessing the fault codes with the 3301 and no other replies to his thread so I'm not sure if that is a tool to get.

Thanks for the quick reply. His cart is lifted with 23" tires and a rear seat, which Alltrax would you recommend? I'm not familiar with this cart to know Series/Sepex, Plug Brake, etc.

Its a Sepex. The XCT line would be perfect. The XCT48300 would be a better than stock replacement and the 500 would be the top of the line with lots of room to grow with more bang down the road (and it can be turned down to work with a stock motor)

Get the 500. It can be tuned down to anything you like. It is only a few bucks more than a 400 with optional fan. It's included with the 500. You will thank me later

Re: Precedent i2 Excel - Precharge Resistor Heating Up
I agree with these guys above. The XCT is a phenomenal controller. The 300 amp version will work without changing anything. The 400 and 500 are also options. The 400 will require 4 gauge cables and a heavy duty solenoid. The 500 will include both of these upgrades as well, plus a motor. The factory motor can't take the abuse of 500 amps. However, like mentioned above, you can turn down the maximum output on the controller until you're ready to upgrade the motor.
