Default Solenoid clicks and cart only moves when charging

I have a late 70's early 80's EZGO, stopped running, and I looked at the batteries and the cables were all corroded really bad. Clean all the cables and post and replaced a cable, and I also checked and filled all the chambers with water. most of them were very low. Then I charged it for several hours, and the solonoid would still click and make a grinding noise. I plugged the charger in and pressed the pedall and it tried to move a little and then it would start clicking again. Any suggestions? Are the batteries just so low they won't charge, need a new solenoid, or what?

I haven't checked it yet, but I also had heard that is they are lower then a certain point that you have to charge them individualy to get them back to where they will charge with the regular charger. We also put a jumper on the solenoid and it acted like it would move.

My Batteries were to low to charge, i have a 48v cart and with 8 v batteries and the batteries volts were like 7.74 on them, so i hooked up a 12v 10 amp charger to two batteries for like 45 min and done to all of them till they had like 7.98 in them and the cart charger would then come on

Battiers are about 5 years old, and my charger goes up to about 10 amps, but not as high has it used to.

15 - 20 amps, depends on how low the batteries are, and then as they charge it will drop down to 5 - or 3 amps and finish the charge, this could take up to 12 hours,

follow the wires out of the back side of the plug where the charger plugs in to the cart , to where they hook up to the batteries POS+ and NEG-, that will be the pack volts,
