easiest way to increase speed on 98 DCS?
Hello all, Total newbie, first cart here :)
Just bought a 98 EZGO. Thanks to the search function and a little reading, I learn its a DCS. I also learn that DCS seems to be one of the more difficult (or $$) models to increase the speed on :( This cart will be used 98% for golf purposes (I have ATV's for other fun!) It seems a little slow to me, but it's probably normal for this cart? I'm looking to get 20ish MPH if possible. What I'm wondering is, can I get a new motor, and use the stock controller and end up with more MPH? or do I need both the motor and controller to achive more speed? thanks for the help all Rian |

You will probly need both to get to those speeds.....might as well convert to 48 volts too.

48 volts and an EMP motor should get you there. 4 ga cables would help too. With the EMP motor you can keep your original controller.

Going to 48 volts will require a controller change amongst other things. A lot of people convert DCS carts to series.

My bad. Yes controllers are voltage sensitive. You can try just the EMP motor and if thats not enough raise voltage and controller upgrade later. Check out their web site, I believe it states what speeds you can expect with different cart combos.

Thanks for the input so far guys! Motor seems like a Good place to start since it would have to be upgraded no matter what I suppose
I've not read anything on converting a DCS to a series cart. What all would be entailed? (and ballpark cost?) Seems like a conversion to 48 volt would be about 1500 (ball park) is this close? |

Re: easiest way to increase speed on 98 DCS?
You dont "have to" do the motor first. By far one of the best upgrades is to 48 volts. To run 48 volts you will need to upgrade the controller and of coarse have 48 volts worth of batteries, a 48 volt solenoid and a charger. Check out alltrax and the DCX line of controllers.
The stock motor responds well to the additional voltage. I think a DCS to Series conversion you can use the same motor. |
