Bypass engine stop when pedal is released
Been looking long and hard but can't find the info I need for my particular application.
I just bought a 2017 Precedent gasser and want to convert the throttle system so the engine will idle when the pedal is released. I have found some info regarding this but not for my 2017 with the EFI Subie. Will someone out there with experience with this mod please help a brother out. And please, no "why would you want to do that" replies. Thanks for the help. |

Re: Bypass engine stop when pedal is released
I am curious if on any threads you read does it tell you how to prevent the battery from dying? I’m only asking because the starter/generator only charges battery after it reaches a certain RPM without an alternator which is why they don’t idle from the factory?

Re: Bypass engine stop when pedal is released
Oh jeez, I said nothing about letting the machine idle for lengthy times so I'm sure the battery health will be just fine.
You know in my post I asked for replies from those who have experience in what I'm trying to accomplish, that's all. |

Re: Bypass engine stop when pedal is released
"One of the safety features on a golf cart is cutting out the engine when the gas pedal is not in use. Many golf enthusiasts understand the importance of this safety feature. However, those who use a golf cart for purposes other than golfing may view it as unimportant. Security guards at airports who shuttle passengers back and forth, for example, have no need to have the engine shut off. Having the golf cart idle makes their job faster and easier. Remove the speed governor to shut this safety feature off on a golf cart."

Re: Bypass engine stop when pedal is released
Actually I was generally curious...I had a customer come in that was trying to design a trailer with some sort of charging system that held voltage to feed back into the system at idle I thought was interesting but never heard anything back from him...anytime I try to raise RPMs enough to charge Yamahas at idle they want to move which makes it hard to switch between forward and reverse obviously

This kit will not work on the 2017 model.

I replied in the other thread you posted, but getting the EFI cart to idle may not be something you want to do. As for charging the battery, unless the cart is sitting at idle for excessive periods, that will never be a real problem. Most people only idle the cart for a few minutes at most, then are driving again. The SG may not be charging at idle speed, but it will not be drawing power either, assuming the engine actually is Running and not just being spun over by the SG. Club Car did use a different voltage regulator and higher output starter generator for the Key start carts that are meant to idle from the factory. Those still only output around 12.7v at engine idle speed, but they reach nominal output a few hundred rpm sooner than the standard version. If that is something you’re really concerned with you can source those parts from a dealer. I’m not aware of any Precedent model ever made to idle from the factory, so some modification will need to be made to wiring and possibly to the mounting for the SG. |

Now I just need to find out how to bypass the neutral lock out so it will start in run mode in neutral. Or you can just run the cart in service mode. I can't see a viable reason why you can't do this and if you have a beefier clutch spring and set your idle nice and low the tranny will shift back and forth no problem. |
